π Survey Overview
The City of The Hills invited resident feedback on a proposal to allocate $6,000 from the city budget to co-fund a fireworks display with The Hills Country Club. A total of 89 survey responses were submitted.
π Response Breakdown
β In favor of the fireworks display: 41 respondents (46%)
β Opposed to the idea: 42 respondents (47%)
π€ Conditional / mixed responses: 6 respondents (7%)
π¬ Community Perspectives
Residents cited multiple concerns including safety, fairness, and financial responsibility.
π£οΈ "City tax dollars should serve the entire community β not subsidize a private business event."
π£οΈ "The club is for-profit and already charges dues. If they want fireworks, they should fund them."
π£οΈ "Absolutely not. It's a fire risk, especially during drought conditions. We need to be more responsible."
π£οΈ "My dog shakes uncontrollably when fireworks go off. Wildlife here is already under stress."
π£οΈ "Planning something like this with just a few weeks' notice doesnβt feel safe or transparent."
β Comments in Favor of City Funding
Supporters focused on convenience, local celebration, and shared experiences.
π£οΈ "Weβd love to not drive to Grey Rock or Lakeway just to see fireworks. Letβs have our own celebration!"
π£οΈ "This brings people together. My kids would love it β and so would our neighbors."
π£οΈ "We already hear fireworks nearby. If we can do it safely here, why not enjoy it as a community?"
π£οΈ "As long as it's in a safe area and well-planned, I fully support it."
π£οΈ "The club and city teaming up is a good idea if itβs done openly and benefits everyone."
π€ Conditional / Mixed Feedback
Some respondents were open to the idea but raised caveats:
π£οΈ "Not opposed in principle, but the club should pay more β not the city."
π£οΈ "More info was needed. The timing felt rushed, and itβs hard to support without details."
π£οΈ "If fire risks are mitigated and it doesnβt impact animals, Iβd be okay with it."
π§Ύ Final Note
Although opinions were divided, a slight majority (54%) either opposed or conditionally supported the proposal, suggesting that concerns outweighed enthusiasm at this stage. The conversation revealed strong interest in both community celebration and careful stewardship of public funds and safety.
